How many times have you wondered why the care team just doesn’t do what is right based on the most knowledge of quality and outcomes do not automatically translate into improved care for our patients? Implementation and the sustainable scale-up of evidence-based interventions are often impeded by contextual factors (e.g., social networks, individual behaviors, culture, values, and norms) within a complex and unpredictable environment.

Transformational change resulting in the highest quality of care delivery and improved patient outcomes (e.g., reducing central-line associated blood stream infections by 40%, improving handoff communication by 95% to avoid fatal care failures, decreasing the incidence of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) by 50%, or increasing breastfeeding discharge rates by 90%) requires methodology to build and maintain an infrastructure for success.

The 2016 NLF will focus on Implementation Science to provide leaders with tangible tools and strategies to effectively transform healthcare delivery within an interdisciplinary real-world practice setting.

The meeting is open to all nurse managers and directors from the NICU, PICU, CVICU and other pediatric specialty areas. We encourage you to bring team members to maximize your experience so you can share strategies and implement ideas when you get home. And, we have many scholarships available for our 20th anniversary meeting, with many thanks to our Professional Education Partners.

The Planning Committee – led by our conference chair, Joan R. Smith, PhD, RN, NNP-BC Advanced Practice Clinical Scientist/Associate Professor of Nursing and St. Louis Children’s Hospital – is working hard to put together an amazing conference that also includes poster sessions, pre-conferences and plenty of time for discussion!

Since conference registration and hotel rooms are limited, early registration is advised. Registrations sent without payment will not be complete. Confirmation will be sent by email when all information is received and, at that time, the participant is officially registered. Out of considerations to registrants, children of any age and spouses/guests may not attend the sessions. Spouses/guests may attend designated social events for additional payment. Tuition includes continuing education hours and meals (including all social events) as
indicated in the agenda.


The NICU Leadership Forum is approved for approximately 18 contact hours. The pre-conferences will be awarded contact hours depending on the length of the program.

Method of Payment

Payment may be made online using Visa, Master Card or American Express. Hospital checks will be accepted if received by April 10th. Registration fees must be received at the Synova offices by the registration deadlines in order to receive the discounted rates. Registration fees must be paid (with the check dated on or before the deadline) by the registration deadlines in order to receive the discounted rates.

Cancellations must be made in writing via email to Sandy Chapman at schapman@synovaassociates.com. Cancellations for both the pre-conference and the main conference received before March 31st will each be assessed a $100 cancellation fee. After March 31st, no refunds will be made; however, we will gladly transfer your registration to another meeting participant. If this meeting is cancelled for any reason, including labor strikes or acts of God, liability is limited to a full refund of registration fees only.
