Dates, Deadlines and Cost to Recertify:

Certification, initial or renewal, is valid for a period of 3 years.

Certification Must Be Renewed Before It Lapses

  • Certificants are required to know when their certification expires and are solely responsible for timely completion of the application and all requirements for renewal.
  • Failure to receive a notice or reminder of expiration does not excuse failure to renew on time.

Lapse Of Certification

  • A certification has lapsed when it is not renewed on or before the certification expiration date.
  • Individuals with a lapsed certification are prohibited from displaying the certification credentials or otherwise representing themselves as ANLC-certified.

The renewal window is open for 3 months prior to the expiration of the certification.

The certification renewal fee is $200.

  • A $50.00 late fee will be applied in addition to the renewal application fee if renewal date is 1 day to 2 months after certification expiration date.
  • A $100.00 late fee will be applied in addition to the renewal application fee if the renewal date is 2 to 4 months after certification expiration.

To maintain the certification, learners must achieve a total of 45 CEs or CE equivalencies in the six ANLC Pillars and in the topic of Equity as described under Qualifying CE Activities. CEs must be earned during the active certification period, which is the 3-year period after receiving the ANLC designation (e.g. December 1, 2024 – November 30, 2027) but there is not a requirement to earn a set amount per year.

Information, supporting documents and identification of ANLC pillar for each Qualifying CE Activity will be reported in a tracking tool. Supporting details need to be provided during the renewal process and will be subject to audit.

You are responsible for notifying Synova with any changes to your name or contact information. Failure to keep your information up-to-date may result in not receiving critical information about your certification. Update your contact information by emailing admin@synovaassociates.com.

Qualifying CE Activities

Pre-Approved Activities (no maximum)

  • Synova NICU Leadership Forum: main conference and optional preconference
  • Synova Perinatal Leadership Forum: main conference and optional preconference
  • Serving as a mentor for ANLC pillar, by invitation: CE equivalent per session dependent on level of participation, approx. 1-3.5 CE equivalent
  • Participation on ANLC Leader Implementation Plan review committee, by invitation: CE equivalent per session dependent on level of participation, approx. 1-3 CE equivalent

You will need to provide a copy of your CE certificate for coursework. For ANLC participation, a letter from the program manager will be provided to submit.

External Organization CE opportunities (no maximum)

  • Professional association conference sessions, virtual training courses that are leadership focused and awarded nursing CEs.
  • Hospital based training sessions that are leadership focused and awarded nursing CEs.

Only sessions focused on ANLC Pillar areas will count toward the CE requirement. You will need to provide a copy of your CE certificate and an agenda/brochure with the session title and learning objectives.

Professional Presentations and Instruction (maximum 5)

  • 1 CE equivalent for presenting a leadership course, workshop and/or webinar (must be primary presenter and a first-time presentation of at least 30 minutes in length)
  • 1 CE equivalent for presenting at leadership related conferences or at healthcare conferences on a leadership related topic (must be primary presenter and a first-time presentation of at least 30 minutes in length)
  • 2 CEs equivalent for writing a leadership article, case study, book, chapter and white paper
  • 1 CE equivalent for writing a published leadership blog

Only sessions focused on ANLC Pillar areas will count toward the CE requirement. You will need to provide:

  • A syllabus, agenda, or screenshot of the web posting listing you as a teacher or presenter.
  • A copy of the title page from an article, case study, or white paper.
  • A cover image of a book where you are listed as an author or the dedication page that lists you as a contributor for a chapter in a book.
  • A letter from the organization listing you as a presenter, author, or instructor for the above mentioned options, the title of the course or article, the date that it was presented, taught, or published, and their signature.

Professional Service Activities (maximum 5)

  • 1 CE equivalent for each year of service as an officer of a healthcare or professional association board

You will need to provide a letter from the organization listing the name of the board, committee, or association, the dates of service, and the title of your position.
