In this session, “Lessons to a New Leader”, a few of the tips and tricks you’ll learn include setting the vision and tone for your team, maintaining fairness and equity, managing in a union environment, and how to cultivate relationships with your staff through team-building activities both in and out of the hospital setting.

Anna Werner, MBA, BSN, RN, CNML, is the NICU and Pediatrics Manager at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Anna leads teams in the NICU, Pediatrics, and Respiratory Therapy Department. Anna has built a level 3 NICU from the ground up and is currently working on elevating pediatric care and growing the pediatrics department. She has her Masters Degree in Business Administration and her Bachelors Degree in Nursing. Anna thrives in growing teams, developing people and building departments.

Francesca M. Leo, BSN, RNC-NIC, is the Clinical Nurse Manager at NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital in New York, NY. Francesca transitioned from bedside nursing to nursing leadership 3.5 years ago when she joined the NewYork-Presbyterian/MSCH family as a Nursing Care Coordinator in the NICU. She served as unit lead representative for the Annual Patient and Staff Safety Fair, and she has been recognized for her efforts to reduce employee workplace harm. Francesca’s passions include employee recognition, CLABSI prevention, baking, and teaching her nephew to say her name!
