When Passion, People, and Purpose Align

My name is Patricia Luger, and I am a Clinical Application Specialist at ATOM Medical USA. My nursing journey began in 2013 in New York City—but my love for medicine started long before that. Several years before nursing school, I joined my local volunteer fire department, becoming both a firefighter and an EMT. I knew I loved caring for people and working in high-stakes environments, but I was still searching for where I truly belonged in healthcare.
That all changed when I started working as a unit secretary in Labor & Delivery. I quickly realized that maternal health nursing was where my heart was. After earning my nursing degree, I spent the first five years of my career as a Labor & Delivery nurse, both at the bedside and as a charge nurse, before stepping into my first leadership role as a Clinical Nurse Manager at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Hospital. That position was the start of my leadership journey—and, ultimately, the path that led me to ATOM Medical USA.
My Introduction to Synova and ATOM Medical
In 2018, I attended my first Synova Perinatal Leadership Conference. I was a new nurse leader then, knowing only one other attendee. But by the end of the conference, I had gained countless new friends and mentors. Synova has a magical way of connecting nurse leaders from across the country who share the same passion for perinatal care. You leave feeling re-energized, inspired, and grateful.
At that same conference, I stopped by the ATOM Medical booth for the first time—and I’ll never forget it. The team was so friendly, welcoming, and genuine. Our conversation wasn’t “salesy” or scripted; I could feel their authentic pride in their products and their deep belief in the company’s mission.
Support That Never Slept
Fast forward to August 2020: my hospital’s Labor & Delivery unit moved into a brand-new maternal-child hospital, and we transitioned to using ATOM baby warmers. As a nurse leader working night shifts in a new building, reliability and support were everything. ATOM’s team delivered both in spades—they were available any time of day or night and even came onsite to train my night-shift staff during their shifts. Their commitment to customer service truly set them apart.
Of course, like with any big change, challenges arise. While I was in my role as a CNM, my team of RN’s were able to provide valuable feedback to improve ATOM’s technology, which would in turn improve the workflow of the RN’s. What I didn’t know then was how far that feedback would travel.
Joining a Team That Listens
When I officially joined ATOM Medical in January 2025, I spent a week in the office for training. At the end of that week, Josh Kamody, President of ATOM Medical USA, asked me what stood out the most during my time there. The moment that nearly brought me to tears was learning firsthand that ATOM listens, and the team seriously values customer feedback.
Today, as part of the ATOM Medical team, I’m reminded every day why I love what I do. I’m surrounded by people who care deeply about our tiniest patients, the nurses and clinicians who care for them, and each other. Leaving the bedside was a big change—and yes, it was scary—but it’s been one of the best decisions of my life.
Now I get to visit Labor & Delivery and NICU units across the country, meet incredible nurse leaders and teams, and teach them about the best infant care technology available. I’m still learning from nurses every day—and still living out my passion, just in a different way.
Change isn’t a Bad Thing
Change can be hard, but it’s also good. For me, it’s been the start of an incredible new chapter—one filled with purpose, gratitude, and the privilege of helping those who care for the most precious lives.
